What will my child are learn in your Karate class?

A major concern with adults who consider placing their children in a martial arts program is the integrity and trustworthiness of the instructors and the school .We at Estero Martial Arts & Fitness focus on character development, martial arts and fun.

Character development

It is never too early to introduce a child to diverse environments. Children are constantly exposed to others from various backgrounds and beliefs. Respect, perseverance and self discipline are tenets of every class of martial arts. In addition to this, we focus from time to time on ‘themes,' such as Stranger Awareness, Fire Safety & Teamwork . We devote time during each class to familiarizing the students with what this means in their lives. We have found that the intimate classroom setting we use (usually around 10 to 15 children) is ideal for the children to learn and interact.

Martial Arts

Our children's program is designed to teach techniques for dealing with bullies and other dangerous situations using non-violent scenarios, as well as role-playing. We incorporate martial arts techniques from many different disciplines into a focused curriculum designed to be age-level appropriate.

Fun

Kids just want to have fun!! And more importantly, they learn through games and play. As their attention spans can be short, we break up class time into structured segments, alternating between games and skill-building time. Strength, coordination, and stamina are all built in our active games.

What are your hours of operation?

We are open Monday-Friday: 9 am – 8pm and Saturday: 9am -1:30pm .

What is the class schedule?
Please view our list of classes and times under schedule .

How often may I come to class?

We offer classes 5 days a week and we recommend attending at least 2 classes a week.

What age groups do you instruct?

Our classes are divided into children, teens and adults.

What type of payment options do you have?

We offer monthly, quarterly and annual payment programs.

Will my child learn self-control, or become abusive?

For us, Karate is about personal development more than conflict. Your child will learn discipline and restraint while developing confidence and control.

Do I need to be physically fit or coordinated?

You do not need to have an athletic background to join Karate. You will start your individual training at the white belt level and progress from there.

Each student who enters our school begins for different reasons; some for confidence and self-defense, others for exercise and coordination. Whatever your motivation we are sure to offer a program to fit your lifestyle.

What is a "Sensei"?

Sensei is the Japanese term which is used for instructor or mentor. It literally means someone who has been where you want to go. They can show you the path which you want to travel because they have traveled it before you.

How long does it take to get a black belt?

That depends on how often you train. For the average adult student, it takes at least 2-3 years.

Our students under age 16 will earn a junior black belt. This is a black belt with a white stripe. The students will learn the same skills with the difference being the requirements to test for Black Belt. Children are tested to the best of their ability with a modified set of requirements.

Don't the martial arts promote violence?

Just the opposite . Martial arts teach discipline and respect, not violence. Character development is taught first and foremost, and then self-defense.
